Food Protection Manager Certification Exam

National Hospitality Training now offers the Food Protection Manager Certification Exam.

In order to become a Certified Food Protection Manager, a candidate must pass a food safety examination from an accredited certification provider. The provider must be recognized by the American National Standards Institute and the Conference for Food Protection (ANSI-CFP).

The resulting certificate is valid for a maximum of 5 years. Some states and local municipalities have their own expiration limits so the certification may expire sooner in your local area. You should check with your local health department to confirm the expiration length.

The state of New York does require that every retail food store applying for a food processing establishment license show that an employee has been recognized as having completed an approved food safety course. Completing our course and exam satisfies that requirement.

The state of New York does not require a certified food safety manager at each restaurant, but many counties and local municipalities do. Even if it is not required in your city, having food safety training helps ensure that customers and employees won't be the victims of foodborne illnesses.

*New York City accepts only their own course and certification for restaurants. NYC customers should go to the NYC.gov website for more information.

Many local health departments in NY have unique ordinances. If you are in doubt about which certification to take, please contact your local health department and see if they accept the ANSI-CFP certification. Most will and if that is the case, you are at the right website to get your certification!

28 states require Food Safety Manager Certification and in the non-mandatory states, most all counties require at least one individual carry this certification. ANSI-CFP is the only certification accepted.

The online exam is taken in a 3rd party proctored environment. ANSI-CFP has strict procedures as to how the exam is administered.

No Additional Certification Fees!

The first step is to purchase either the food safety course and exam as a package (recommended) or just the exam by itself. Once you purchase the package or exam, you will need to register to take the exam at the test center. It is taken in an online format at the test center.

When you purchase the Exam and/or the package deal, both Include the PSI Test Center and proctor fee. There are no additional Fees. *Retakes not included. Additional exam retake fee will apply if you fail the test. This is the reason we recommend purchasing both the prep course and the exam as a package.
